We are seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to join our growing team in the Yale University Department of Genetics.
The Lake Lab is seeking a motivated postdoctoral scientist to join our growing team in the Yale Center of Genomic Health and Department of Genetics. Our lab uses computational and experimental methods to understand how human genetic variation underlies health and disease, across rare and common phenotypes, with a focus on the mitochondrial genome. We also prioritize translating our research into practical tools that benefit research and clinical communities (e.g. Lake et al, Nature, 2024).
We are looking for a postdoc to spearhead computational projects that will develop and apply cutting-edge approaches for analyzing genetic variants in mitochondrial, and nuclear genomes, and their role in disease. Individuals from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
The lab is located in the Yale School of Medicine which offers an outstanding training environment for postdoctoral scientists, with state-of-the-art research facilities and vast resources to support professional development. For more information about our lab, past publications and our research please see our website: https://www.thelakelab.org/
Responsibilities
Mentoring & Professional Development
The lab has a strong emphasis on mentorship and values the opportunity to train future leaders in genetics and genomics. The PI will work with the successful candidate to develop and implement a mentorship plan tailor-made for their goals and interests. Mentorship will be provided for fellowship applications, manuscript writing, presentations, and independence.
The successful candidate will gain access to a range of career development opportunities at Yale. This includes seminars from internationally renowned researchers and ‘Meet the Speaker’ lunches, and professional development and networking activities including via the Yale Postdoctoral Association and Yale Office for Career Strategy.
Qualifications
Candidates should have or be close to obtaining a PhD in either genetics, genomics, computational biology, bioinformatics, or a related field.
Experience with programming languages (such as Python and R) and the command line interface is required. Experience with one or more of the following is desired: large-scale genomic analyses, variant calling, high performance computing environments, cloud computing, machine learning methods, and or statistical genetics.
The ideal candidate will also demonstrate:
Position Information
This is a full-time, primarily in-person position at Yale in the vibrant city of New Haven, Connecticut, with a competitive salary starting from $68,000 USD a year (commensurate with experience) and access to a range of benefits.
Application Instructions
Please email the following to Dr. Nicole Lake at [email protected]: (1) a cover letter summarizing your experiences, research interests, and career goals, and why you are interested in pursuing a postdoc in our lab, (2) your CV, including contact details of three references, and (3) when you are available to start.
